there were no rootless Christmas trees<\/p>\n

hung with candycanes and breakable stars<\/p>\n

Christ climbed down<\/p>\n

from His bare Tree<\/p>\n

this year<\/p>\n

and ran away to where<\/p>\n

there were no gilded Christmas trees<\/p>\n

and no tinsel Christmas trees<\/p>\n

and no tinfoil Christmas trees<\/p>\n

and no pink plastic Christmas trees<\/p>\n

and no gold Christmas trees<\/p>\n

and no black Christmas trees<\/p>\n

and no powderblue Christmas trees<\/p>\n

hung with electric candles<\/p>\n

and encircled by tin electric trains<\/p>\n

and clever cornball relatives<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Christ climbed down<\/p>\n

from His bare Tree<\/p>\n

this year<\/p>\n

and ran away to where<\/p>\n

no intrepid Bible salesmen<\/p>\n

covered the territory<\/p>\n

in two-tone cadillacs<\/p>\n

and where no Sears Roebuck creches<\/p>\n

complete with plastic babe in manger<\/p>\n

arrived by parcel post<\/p>\n

the babe by special delivery<\/p>\n

and where no televised Wise Men<\/p>\n

praised the Lord Calvert Whiskey<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Christ climbed down<\/p>\n

from His bare Tree<\/p>\n

this year<\/p>\n

and ran away to where<\/p>\n

no fat handshaking stranger<\/p>\n

in a red flannel suit<\/p>\n

and a fake white beard<\/p>\n

went around passing himself off<\/p>\n

as some sort of North Pole saint<\/p>\n

crossing the desert to Bethlehem<\/p>\n

Pennsylvania<\/p>\n

in a Volkswagen sled<\/p>\n

drawn by rollicking Adirondack reindeer<\/p>\n

with German names<\/p>\n

and bearing sacks of Humble Gifts<\/p>\n

from Saks Fifth Avenue<\/p>\n

for everybody\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s imagined Christ child<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Christ climbed down<\/p>\n

from His bare Tree<\/p>\n

this year<\/p>\n

and ran away to where<\/p>\n

no Bing Crosby carollers<\/p>\n

groaned of a tight Christmas<\/p>\n

and where no Radio City angels<\/p>\n

iceskated wingless<\/p>\n

thru a winter wonderland<\/p>\n

into a jinglebell heaven<\/p>\n

daily at 8:30<\/p>\n

with Midnight Mass matinees<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Christ climbed down<\/p>\n

from His bare Tree<\/p>\n

this year<\/p>\n

and softly stole away into<\/p>\n

some anonymous Mary\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s womb again<\/p>\n

where in the darkest night<\/p>\n

of everybody\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s anonymous soul<\/p>\n

He awaits again<\/p>\n

an unimaginable<\/p>\n

and impossibly<\/p>\n

Immaculate Reconception<\/p>\n

the very craziest of<\/p>\n

Second Comings<\/p>\n
